Training

The Key to Great Photography is

Training and Practice

I offer a variety of training course for all levels of photographers, from the very newest beginner to the advanced. The section describes my current course schedule.

Seminars

I am in the process of putting together some photography seminars. These will be focused events discussing and exploring a specific subject area. I am still working out some of the details, but I am collecting the names of people who might be interested at this time.I am not taking formal registrations yet, but I am determining the interest before I book facilities.

If one or more of these seminars interests you, please send me an email at scott@zwcx.com (or simply reply to this email), letting me know what you’d like to attend.

Once I take care of the logistical details, I send our the registration information.

Off-Camera Flash and lighting Modifiers

Controlling your lighting and learning how to use off-camera flash is the an important step in expanding your photography. Many photographers get advised to use these techniques, but are unsure how to approach it and what to do.

This seminar will be a three-hour event, specifically focused on how to begin your exploration of this area. It will be hands-on as I both explain and demonstrate the techniques and tools I use for my own photography.

This will be an evening event.

Digital Workflow and Adobe Lightroom

A hands-on class showing the proper care and feeding of your camera, including the mysterious cleaning of the sensor and a detailed discussion and demonstration of my workflow with Adobe Lightroom. Although I cover some of this in my introductory class, this will be an advanced discussion of this area

This will be an evening event.

Let’s go shooting

In this seminar we will both shoot and review our work. This is a longer event that will take place on a weekend. We will first start with photographing as a group where I will discuss and show how to explore a subject and develop for previsualization techniques. Afterwards, we will review and explore the results of our effort and see how others interpret a scene.
This will be a day event on a weekend.

Classes

Introduction to Photography

Photography is not as easy as it looks. it takes more than a great camera to create great photographs. This class is intended for beginning and intermediate photographers with a desire to understand and improve their photography. Students need a camera, but not necessarily a DSLR, and a desire to learn.

This highly interactive and engaging course will guide you through the process of understanding both how the camera works and how it sees the world.  There will be classroom instruction, assignments and review will guide students through the process of taking great pictures that tell stories. This is an 8-week class (unless otherwise stated) with a mixture of lecture and review. It is designed to both teach you the concepts of photography, but also develop an understanding of how yourself and others interpret your work.

Although there is not hands-on session during this class, many students find it valuable to bring their camera to class.

Advanced Photography

Photography is both an Art and a Science. Once you have mastered the basic technical details of your camera, the challenge is to express yourself properly. The Advanced Photography course is a six-week adventure into the more complex and artistic areas of photography. It is a mix of lecture and assignments for intermediate and advanced photographers who wish to take their photography further. It is not intended to be a difficult or painful class, but students should have taken an introductory course and/or be comfortable with basic principles of photography.
